Reading and Leeds Festivals part ways with Carling

rganisers Festival Republic have confirmed that they have parted ways with the beer giant who has sponsored the twin festivals for nine years. Carling will also no longer be the official lager of the festivals. In a statement Festival Republic?s Melvin Benn said: ?It was by mutual agreement that both parties felt the time was right to pursue new opportunities. ?The southern leg of the event now looks set to revert to its original name Reading Festival originally used from the bash?s first year in 1971.

Popular music festival cancelled

The Peel Bay Festival attracted thousands of music lovers last summer. However organiser Jonathan Irving has decided to pull the event planned for next June after the government refused his request to underwrite the event. The island’s tourism minister Adrian Earnshaw MHK told Tynwald the potential cost to the taxpayer was not a good use of government money. Mr Irving has criticised the minister’s decision claiming he has a "lack of vision and imagination".

Films to be shown include the award-winning The Lives of thers by director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck which garnered the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Stephen Frears’ The Queen which won Helen Mirren the 2007 Academy Award for Best Actress. ther European movies on schedule are dramas like Klaus Haro’s Elina from Sweden Franck van Mechelen’s The Intruder from Belgium Pieter Verhoeff’s Nynke from Holland and also comedies like Jesper W. Nielsen’s Store Planer from Denmark Adnero Manas’ November from Spain and Tamas Sas’ SS Love from Hungary.
