Edward Yang to be honored at Hong Kong festival

The festival will show several of the Taiwanese-American director’s films hold a seminar on his work and display his manuscripts paintings and awards according to the official festival program issued Thursday. The festival’s Asian Film Awards will also launch “The Edward Yang New Talent Award” with the inaugural prize going to Japanese director Yuya Ishii. rganizers said in a separate statement on their Web site that Yang’s widow Kaili Peng and son Sean will present the award to Ishii in Hong Kong. Yang an American citizen died at his home in Beverly Hills on June 29 from complications from colon cancer.

Uganda: Youths Gear Up for Afro-Arab Festival

According to the Minister of State for Youth and Children who is also the coordinator of Afro-Arab Youth Festival 2008 Major (Rtd) James Kinobe the festival will be attended by more than 2000 youth delegates from 66 Arab and African countries plus two representatives from countries like China India Japan Malaysia Cuba Germany Norway Canada Thailand and North Korea who hold observer status. "Uganda the host country will be represented by 500 youth and the key theme is ‘Youth in Peace and Development Partnership’" Kinobe said.

A film festival in New Delhi

It was at the seventh Council of Ministers Meeting of the IR-ARC held in March last year that India offered to host the festival. The IR-ARC is a regional initiative started in Mauritius in March 1997 with the aim of promoting economic and technical cooperation including expansion of trade and investment. It has 18 members including India Australia Kenya Mauritius man Singapore South Africa Indonesia Madagascar Malaysia Mozambique Sri Lanka Tanzania Yemen Bangladesh Iran Thailand and the UA E. The Australian film Yolngu Boy will be screened at the inauguration where the directors of the films from Australia Mauritius and Bangladesh will be present.

Botswana: Golden ldies At Splash Festivals

While some are just ordinary night clubbers who do not necessarily follow the group some are ardent fanatics who have followed the group since its maiden years back in 1987. But the "old" fans often feel they have been robbed of a chance to see the groups perform golden oldies like Potilo Cool Down and Mbalembale. Splash ace producer and lead singer Dan Tshanda who is also in charge of Dalom Kids Patricia Majalisa Matshikos Peacock as well as our own Don B is coming up with a totally different national tour this time around.
