Baltimore Hosts Festival of Maps

The festival was organized by the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance. The centerpiece of the festival is an exhibit at the Walters Art Museum called “Maps: Finding ur Place in the World” which runs through June 8. That exhibit includes a map of Colonial America from 1784 maps from ancient Rome and Babylonia a chart used by Charles Lindbergh on his historic flight from New York to Paris a Leonardo da Vinci map and a map made by the 16th century Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator. Mercator is credited with developing a way of depicting the globe on a flat surface.

Hindu festival of colours Holi Christian’s Good Friday marking the crucification of Jesus Christ and the birth of Prophet Muhammed who propagated Muslim religion fell on the same day on Friday. Holi Fateha-e-Dohaj Dahum and Good Friday coincided this year. It has not happened as far back memory goes with the solar calendar of Hindus Islamic lunar and the Gregorian calendar of Christians coming together for the major relgions in the country. “Faithfuls prayed for communal harmony and peace on this special day when Milad-un-nabi (Prophet’s birthday) was also observed” Imam Anwar Hussain of Bura Maszid here said.
