Jewish Film Festival
San Francisco Chronicle – Mar 31, 2008
New Israeli films in the festival will focus on the lives of Ethiopian musicians Indian high-tech engineers Russian factory workers and Bedouin filmmakers along with members of other ethnic groups. As always the festival will feature Jewish films from many countries. In fact this year’s event includes a sidebar festival on Italian-Jewish cinema including Mimmo Calopresti’s documentary “I nly Wanted to Live” which follows nine Italian detainees of the Auschwitz death camp. Among other likely festival highlights are Paul Weiland’s “Sixty Six” starring Helena Bonham Carter a comedy-drama set in 1966 about a British bar mitzvah that’s in danger of being overshadowed by World Cup soccer fever and “Love Comes Lately” directed by Jan Schutte a German film based on stories by Isaac Bashevis Singer about the amorous pursuits of an elderly man.
