PTButte’s big summer includes the three-day National Folk FestivalBy SUSAN GALLAGHERTHE ASSCIATED PRESSBUTTE Mont. — The National Folk Festival comes to Montana this summer bringing the event’s mix of “music dance and tradition from across America” to historic Butte in Big Sky country. The three-day festival changes venues every three years. For the past three summers it was held in Richmond Va. The National Council for the Traditional Arts chose Butte over 22 other cities that bid to host the multicultural event for the next three summers. The dates for this year’s festival are July 11-13.

RT?is the title sponsor of the event and it will feature the productions extensively on radio with programmes including ‘Marian Finucane’ ‘Mooney’ ‘The Saturday Show’ ‘The Ronan Collins Show’ and ‘The Arts Show’ all having some form of coverage between 2 and 11 May. The TV programmes ‘Nationwide’ and ‘Pobal’ will also broadcast festival-related features on 2 and 11 May respectively. Advertisement The festival itself which is for amateur theatre groups takes place from 2 to 10 May in Athlone. It will feature two performances of Brian Friel’s ‘Philadelphia Here I Come’ one on Saturday 3 May by the Shoestring Theatre Group and one on Saturday 10 May by the Silken Thomas Players which will close the festival.

This year’s edition which ran from April 18-20 had a record attendance of more than 5 000 people per day. However it should be mentioned that other art genres were overshadowed by music. Even the organisers conceded that other genres were not fully represented and vowed to work on that in the future. Reitmans to appear at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival

THE CANADIAN PRESS MNTREAL–Father-and-son filmmakers Ivan and Jason Reitman will hold court at this summer's Just For Laughs festival interviewing one another about their Hollywood adventures. The Canadian movie-makers will converse at the festival's inaugural Just Comedy industry conference taking place July 17th and 18th and will question one another and share anecdotes about making movies in Tinseltown. "We are very honoured to have a father-and-son duo which has been and will continue to be a major force in the filmmaking world at our festival this summer" said Bruce Hills head of Just For Laughs. Jason Reitman who was nominated for a best director scar for his teen pregnancy comedy Juno will also attend a so-called master class on filmmaking on July 18. His father Ivan was behind some of the biggest Hollywood comedies of the 1970s and '80s including Animal House Ghostbusters and Stripes.
Limerick hosts utsiders Festival

Described as the first festival of its kind in Ireland by the organisers it will feature the work of artists considered ‘outsiders’ whose work is rarely seen or experienced by audiences. Dance performance live art visual art visionary art sound voice and film are all on the programme. Advertisement The Festival will be based at the Belltable Arts Centre’s Daghda Space and Limerick Printmakers. The Love Spotters a group of dancers with special needs who have been working with choreographer Daniel Vais for the past two years are among the groups scheduled to perform.
