Indio prepares to live up to its ‘City f Festivals’ nickname

They’re calling Indio–the City of Festivals– about the big one: the 9th annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival opening Friday and running through Sunday. "We’re ready and we want people to enjoy themselves" Guitron said. This year’s headliners include R&B superstar Prince laid-back pop guitarist Jack Johnson and classis rock legend Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. The three-day celebration features more than 125 music acts.

Theatrical children’s painting festival underway at IIDCYA

Iranian Energy Minister Parviz Fattah and the ambassadors of 31 countries whose children are participating in the event attended the opening ceremony. Most of the visitors will be children and adolescents and the exhibit is being held in the form of creative and instructive plays one of the organizers of the event Jafar Mahyari told the Mehr News Agency. Each visitor is welcomed by two actors who guide the guest to paintings and invite the visitor to participate in their play he added. He went on to say that this is the first festival which is not a theater festival but which is performed in the form of a play.

Louis Post-Dispatch Just found out that a wheelchair race has been added to the Brigette Schutzman Festival of Miles 6:30 p. April 28 at the St. Louis University High track. Racers from the Disabled Athletes Sports Association will compete in a high school-age wheelchair mile.

Cúirt literature festival opens in Galway

Jennifer Johnston and Sebastian Barry will open the Galway festival which has seen dozens of Nobel prize winners Poet Laureates and major novelists attend since its inception. The theme of the 2008 programme is Eyewitnesses To History and authors who have experienced troublespots across the globe from Afghanistan to Northern Ireland Chechnya to South Africa will speak. Norwegian journalist Asne Seierstad who wrote the best-seller The Bookseller f Kabul will take part in a public interview in which she will discuss her latest book The Angel f Grozny which portrays the difficulties of life in post-war Chechnya. Arkady Babchenko who wrote the highly acclaimed ne Soldier’s War which won Russia’s Best Debut of the Year Prize last year will also discuss life in war-torn Chechnya.
