Low attendance and a lack of sponsorships have led to the cancellation of the 2009 Rockingham County Folk Festival. The festival?s board of directors made the decision Wednesday to halt the two-day festival traditionally held on the campus of Rockingham Community College. ?We have had difficulty in recent years obtaining sponsorships? Tony Gunn the festival?s executive director said Friday. ?We?d also had problems for at least the last seven years with rain on one of the festival?s days and that kept attendance down. ?To combat the weather problem organizers moved the Folk Festival from its usual May date to September last year.
