Festival of Lights begins at sundown

Hanukkah the Jewish Festival of Lights begins at sundown on Sunday and lasts eight days. A festival of religious freedom and national survival Hanukkah commemorates the Jewish Maccabees' military victory over the Greek-Syrians more than 2000 years ago and the rededication of the Second Temple which had been desecrated.
Enzian film festival hires fundraiser

According to a release Shorr will manage all fundraising activities for both Enzian and the Florida Film Festival starting Jan. “Mara is an outstanding leader with an exceptional blend of creative strategic business and leadership experience” said Sigrid Tiedtke president of Enzian Theater and the Florida Film Festival in a prepared statement. Enzian Theater is a Maitland-based nonprofit cinema for independent and international films as well as several other types of documentaries and family entertainment.

Bay Shore winter festival promises sledding fireworks

The town received $23000 in corporate donations for the festival and used $16000 in parks department funds to help purchase a portable skating rink. The town also acquired a snow machine. Nolan said he hopes to take the rink on the road hosting Winter by the Bay in a different Islip hamlet each year. Cablevision which owns Newsday is the festival’s primary sponsor. The Rinx of Hauppauge will provide skates and Zamboni shavings which will be piled into a sledding mound dubbed Peppermint Hill.
KWANZAA FESTIVAL FFERS UNIQUE FUN

An annual event sponsored by the Elegba Folklore Society it will take place this year at The Showplace Exhibition Center 300 Mechanicsville Turnpike. The festival runs Saturday 1-10 p. and is packed with things to watch and do that highlight the spirit of the Kwanzaa season.
