NHSCA HIGH SCHL BASKETBALL FESTIVAL Slam-dunk prospects

‘I’ve had a few such chances having gone to college with a player who is thriving in major league baseball and having covered a high school hoopster who is a 20-minute-a-night center in Atlantic Coast Conference. That’s one of the beauties of the NHSCA High School Basketball Festival at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center and Wicomico High School over this long holiday weekend. With 39 teams there are as many as 50 Division I prospects taking to the floors of Salisbury and we all get a chance to say “I saw him play when he was dominating in high school. “Two of those players would be Walbrook’s Roscoe Smith and Nichols School’s William Regan. At 6-foot-8 Smith is a junior wing player who reportedly is getting looks from the best collegiate programs in the country. According to Rivals.

The weeklong African-American festival which began Friday also sparked high-energy dance music and drumming. The festival celebrated by millions nationwide drew more than 1500 people to The Showplace Exhibition Center including 14-year-old Emonie Smith of Richmond.

Talking to myrepublica. com Coordinator of the festival Sara Tareen said “24 documentaries from all eight member countries of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation will be presented over four days of the festival and will focus on conflict peace people and culture. ” Along with the screenings Tareen informed “The festival will also double as an open house for critical reviews and discussions on various papers to be presented by leading directors. ” “The festival organized by South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) seeks to provide a multi cultural platform of South Asian documentary film makers for quality production and viewership” said Secretary General SAFMA Imtiaz Alam “It will help understand each other and will create better awareness among South Asian people and help build a fraternity of South Asian documentary makers. ” The festival which was slated to be held in Mumbai India earlier this month has been brought to Kathmandu because of Mumbai attacks. “The next SAFMA Documentary Festival however will be held in Mumbai in 2009″ said Alam.
