The stars were out in full force among them Jim Carrey Susan Sarandon John Krasinski Ashton Kutcher and even Mike Tyson (the subject of a new documentary by James Toback). 15 and concludes Sunday. The energy seemed much lower than usual; the crowds considerably thinner. Despite some truly exceptional onscreen efforts it was hard not to conclude that this film festival in its 25th year had become yet another victim of the ongoing economic crisis.

” That’s how Bill Herman director of Huntington’s Paradiddle Records sees his mission. And that’s why he’s helping the fledgling Patchogue Arts Council launch the Winter Arts Festival. “Hopefully it’ll be annual” says Christopher Capobianco board member of the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts which plays host tomorrow. While Herman is handling the concert the arts council opens the day’s events with art and poetry. The idea grew out of the “Live in the Lobby” series now in its fourth season. It features Long Island musicians playing their original music.

The city’s parks and recreation commission a volunteer organization would collect between $6000 and $7000 for a basic festival or up to $10000 if someone stepped up to sponsor live musical entertainment or warming tents Noonan said. Paired with a library book sale sponsored by the Utica Public Library and carriage rides sponsored with $1500 contributed by the city’s Downtown Development Authority the family festival helped bring patrons to downtown businesses and restaurants such as Hatchy’s and the Shamrock Irish Pub.
