Film Festival Celebrating 25 Years With 22 Features

Schofield conceived the story for “Parting Words” a feature film about four friends around 30 years old who have been pals since childhood: three guys with some serious maturity issues; and the alluring troubled woman who is both the rose and the thorn in their friendship. A comedy-drama “Parting Words” will be screened on Friday as the concluding film of the Long Island Film Festival which is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a mix of 22 features shorts documentaries and experimental and animated films at two North Shore locations. The four-day festival starts Monday at the Creative Arts Studio in Sea Cliff with an all-shorts program; it continues Wednesday through Friday at Perspective Studios a computer-graphics animation company in Glen Cove. Panel discussions awards presentations and a post-awards party on Friday night round out the event at least on Long Island. In May the festival plans to head for Santa Monica Calif. (where Perspective Studios has another facility) for the last stop of a bicoastal anniversary road tour; since September the festival has planted itself for a day or two at sites on the Island in Brooklyn and in Manhattan.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts began planning the “Arabesque” festival years ago. Its events are not tied to the U. government in any way but the timing turned out to be inspired said show curator Alicia Adams. “It’s fortuitous that it’s happening at this time when we are trying to change the way that we do things and our relationships with this region of the world” she said.

Participating junior high schools include Murphysboro Middle School Marion Junior High School and Harrisburg Middle School. The SIUC Jazz Festival 2009 culminates in a 4 p. concert featuring New Arts Jazztet an SIUC faculty jazz ensemble and the SIUC Studio Jazz rchestra. The Studio Jazz rchestra is the top of the student jazz ensembles at SIUC. Lecturer Timothy Pitchford is the director.
