utside report: Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival nears

In addition to expert kayak surfers from around the world the 2009 Festival will offer competition for stand-up paddle surfers and a special College Team Challenge featuring UC Santa Cruz Cal State Monterey Bay and other school teams. The contest will also include selection of members for the U. West Surf Kayak Team for the 2009 World Surf Kayaking Championships in Portugal this summer. The festival is the largest surf kayak competition in the world and features competition events for all ages and skill levels of surf kayakers.

‘Teza’ Wins Top Award at African Film Festival

The film’s Ethiopian-born director Haile Gerima now lives in the United States and his sister Selome Gerima right also co-produced the film accepted in his honor at the event which plays a similar role in Africa to the Academy Awards in the United States. The second-place prize was awarded to the South African film.
