Estelle to headline Stockholm Jazz Festival

Earlier this month the festival said Hill had canceled all European tour dates because of health reasons. The Stockholm Jazz Festival is one of Sweden’s biggest music events and has previously hosted stars such as Mary J. Blige Sting Stevie Wonder Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie. This year’s event will take place July 15-19.

The film follows a director’s search for a leading actor for his drama set in picturesque Tibet. Christina Yao’s Empire of Silver a mainland-Hong Kong-Taiwan co-production about a young heir to a giant banking empire in 1899 took the Jury Award.

Cannes winner comes to Los Angeles Film Festival

The touching journey of a single mom who moves to small-town Illinois to provide a better life for her teenage son won the Fipresci International Federation of Film Critics award at Cannes 2009 and marks the feature film debut for Cherien Dabis. The free screening starts at 7 p. Saturday at the Regent Theater in Westwood and will include a Q&A after the showing.
