Man accused of urinating on people at festival

(AP) — A 31-year-old Detroit man faces a misdemeanor assault and battery charge after allegedly urinating on several people during an annual gay pride event. The Daily Tribune of Royal ak reported the man had been drinking and was upset that he was splashed with water aimed at street dancers Sunday during the Motor City Pride Festival. William Wilson said “he may have wanted to take revenge” turned and urinated on the leg of a man standing next to him. The Detroit Free Press reports two other people were sprayed in the process. The man is to be arraigned June 23.

The strawberry showdown was confirmed Tuesday when the Watsonville City Council voted to hold the popular festival downtown Aug. The recently fired promoter plans to move forward with a similar festival at the county fairgrounds. The city canceled Les Peterson’s contract after he notified the city the festival had been moved three miles away to the fairgrounds.

Venice thinks local with festival opener

The film is the follow-up to Tornatore’s critically acclaimed 2006drama “La sconosciuta” (The Unknown Woman). Tornatore’s “NuovoCinema Paradiso” which like “Baaria” is set in the director’snative Sicily won the scar for best foreign-language film in1990. Venice organizers said Wednesday that the film — named for thenickname for the Sicilian village where Tornatore was born — willopen the festival Sept. 2 as part of a gala event at the maincinema in the Venice Lido’s Palazzo del Cinema. The film will gointo general release in Italy in Sept. Tornatore is no stranger to Venice.
