Cheesemakers Festival to take place in Vermont

—If you’re a fiend for cheese head to Vermont for the state’s first Cheesemakers Festival scheduled for Aug. The event will be hosted by the Vermont Institute for Artisan Cheese the Vermont Butter & Cheese Company and the Vermont Cheese Council and will take place at Shelburne Farms near Burlington. The festival will feature over 100 cheeses for sampling 50 different cheesemakers 15 artisan food makers four tasting seminars two cooking demonstrations and more.
‘Fringe Hangover’ to reprise highlights from eight-day arts festival

Next we have “Fringe Hangover” — a reprise of several productions staged during the eight-day festival. Cheryl Kimmi the festival’s director said performances of selected groups would be held Thursday through Sunday for the next two weekends at Just ff Broadway Theatre 3051 Central St. in Penn Valley Park.

The Big Green Gathering due to begin on Wednesday near Cheddar was pulled by organisers when the council said it was seeking an injunction against it. Festival chief Brig ubridge accused the council and police of deliberately trying to bankrupt the event. The council said it had done all it could to ensure the event went ahead. Mr ubridge said when the festival team met council officials and the police on Thursday there had been no mention of a potential injunction.

“Puerto Rico! Puerto Rico!’’ screamed the crowd as floats passed in celebration of the annual Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts. Starting at noon the parade proceeded from Malcolm X Boulevard and Tremont Street to the festival at Franklin Park. An estimated 12000 people listened and danced to live music and tasted a variety of authentic Puerto Rican food. The economic downturn however shrank the typical three-day event to one day and several attractions were missing. “We didn’t have as much money’’ said Reyito Santiago president of Festival Puertorriqueño of New England which helped organize the event.

In addition to Washington Sunday?s lineup included the Gerald Wilson rchestra and the Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars. Perry said that other than the music festival-goers were savoring peach cobbler and sweet potato fries Louisiana-style cooking and fresh strawberries and oranges. She said the festival marked an important part of the city?s past. ?It kind of celebrates the history and the roots of jazz here in our city? she said.
